Wisdom by Ambs Art in Madrid

This portrait represents an old man whose life and biography intrigued me to pick up the paintbrush and create his own timeless representation. Rendered with layers of oils, in this painting I was practicing the old master's techniques such as Valesques and Rembrandt by trying to comprehend how layers of wet oil on one another can create a harmonious composition and likeliness too. Great attention was given to details such as the heavy white beard, the wrinkles, and the folds of drapery on the clothing. In addition to this, my prime objective was to capture the energy in his eyes and to provide enough space for his stare to follow those looking back at him.
