Wiradjuri Condobolin study centre 2 by Darren Cooper in West Wyalong

Wiradjuri Condobolin study centre 2

The first of 2 large murals for Condobolin Wiradjuri that I had constructed from a small original canvas painting, depiction of Wiradjuri Kalari clan on country at a traditional site call the Murie. This mural was 10 meters by 3 meters. Those murals were painted in 2010 and at that stage of my career I was still developing and look back and see how I have improved to a point of doing external mural on water tanks. At the time I was very happy with the job I had done as were the centre, as it was a significant interior wall, however I could do so much more with murals these days. This mural narrative and conceptual storyline were very power for the community, and I needed to exaggerate the sparseness of arid plains between the campsite and rock mountain in the distance, under a night sky that distant smoke from campfires could be seen faces of spirits of tribes. For this reason, the storyline dictated the direction as a spiritual story, not so much as a pretty picture.
