whowhat can you truly see

I completed my painting specialisation with my final project entitled "who/what do you truly see?". Whenever I think of transitional space, the first thing that comes to mind is an empty room with a mirror facing me. And all I can see is a reflection of myself. I kept looking at myself and thinking “Wow, I've changed a lot throughout my time.” And I kept gazing at myself, viewing different angles of myself, questioning myself nonstop, “Have I changed enough? Am I looking at the real me? My true “me”? Is that even me? Is that what I want it to be like? What happened to me?" My intention is to use acrylic mirrors in my paintings as a way to both manipulate and capture viewers' attention. However, I also want their reflections to appear in the artworks, capturing unrelated reflections at random locations, thus transitioning themselves into the artworks. My work should look as if it is constantly changing as if it were alive. For example, you can see a person in the reflection of the artwork. You can see how it transitions from one position to another. This is what I want to achieve. Before I even started off with my final work, I decided to start off by making collages. This is because I personally believe that it is a helpful way to kick things off. In my final project, I chose a variety of images from different magazines, newspapers, and other sources. I wanted to use mixed media in order to create perspective views and depths as this creates a transition from one place to another. As time progressed, I became more interested in making collages and used this technique for my final project. So next time, whenever you see a mirror around, take a moment to look at yourself and think, who/what do you truly see? Your physical, outer self, or your mental, inner "true self"? It's worth considering.
