Weight of the opposite by sese in Ontario

Seromo Okoro (Sese) I am a Nigerian-born visual artist based in Canada. My work is inspired by storytelling, memory, dreams, and lived experience. Through painting, I reflect emotions, personal experiences, and the ways memories stay with us over time. Many of my ideas come from childhood, boarding school memories, dreams, and moments that continue to live in the mind long after they happen. My paintings are not about showing events exactly as they happened. Instead, I paint how experiences feel. I am interested in memory, imagination, hope, and reflection, using painting to turn emotions and personal experiences into images that others can connect with in their own way. My work blends real life with imagination through figurative painting, symbolism, layered imagery, and expressive mark making. Some works include enlarged eyes, dream-like environments, and moments drawn from memory. These elements help me speak about observation, inner emotion, and unseen experiences. I mainly work with oil paint, acrylic, and pastel on canvas, building surfaces through layers, texture, colour, and expressive brushwork to create atmosphere and depth. My process often begins with sketches, memories, dreams, or moments that remain emotionally present. My goal is to create honest work that feels personal but also shared, allowing viewers to reflect, connect, and find parts of their own experiences within the paintings.
