Weight of Escape by IRADUKUNDA Remy in Kigali
Weight of Escape
This installation sculpture appears to depict a human figure made from wire and aluminum foil**, kneeling and clutching a pile of glass bottles. The figure is dynamic, expressive, and evokes a strong emotional reaction through its posture and materials.
"Weight of Escape"The figure's form, composed of tangled wire and foil, symbolizes vulnerability, entrapment, and fragility. The cluster of bottles often associated with alcohol suggests themes of addiction, dependency, or escapism. The kneeling posture could reflect struggle, surrender, or seeking help, implying an inner battle or moment of breakdown.
The use of transparent and reflective materials emphasizes transparency and exposure, possibly pointing to the raw and often hidden realities of personal or social issues like substance abuse. The installation invites viewers to reflect on the burden of unhealthy coping mechanisms and the human need for support and healing.
