Walk the Walls Festival 2022

Medium: Aerosol. This mural was the first of 3 designs I did at the Walk the Walls Festival 2022. I grew up on Dharawal Country in Kurranulla (or Cronulla) and feel a deep connection to these lands and waters. The design and concept were a collaboration with Aunty Deanna, representing waterways and connections. Middens in the local area are filled with the shellfish and oysters collected from these waterways. This was the main source of food for the Dharawal people of this area for thousands and thousands of years. This mural depicts the shellfish and oysters as well as the important role they play in cleansing the waters. The starry night sky can be seen on the inside of the wharves roof, where passengers wait for their ferries. As this wharf is a place of transit, the night sky represents travelling and navigating by the stars.
