walawaani gurray
This artwork tells the story of a man who has often had to walk his path alone, drawing strength from within himself. While his journey required resilience and self-belief, his siblings remained nearby—present, steady, and ready to catch him if he faltered. Their support did not define him, but it stood alongside his own inner strength.
The golden river flowing through the painting represents his heart: kind, gentle and calm. It symbolises a heart of gold that has remained pure and generous despite life’s challenges, reflecting a steadiness that comes from within rather than from circumstance.
The fractured and layered elements of the work speak to moments of hardship and brokenness along his path. Rather than weakening him, these experiences have shaped his resilience. The artwork acknowledges that while strength is born within, it is familial connection that helps hold us together, reminding us that even through life’s fractures, family remains a source of grounding and support.
