I was inspired to paint a Barathnatyam dancer because I love the art and maybe wanted to be one when I was younger. This is Ms Ranjini Ganapathy who performed an Arangetram which signifies that an Indian classical dancer can now ascend the stage, with the blessings of her guru, and pass the knowledge of this art form to other aspiring learners. The theme revolved around animals in Hindu mythology. This pose is of a serpent representing The King Serpent, Vasuki; a devotee of Lord Shiva who has adorned around his neck. 21 by 30cm on watercolour paper using watercolour paints.
