United by Coffee by Micaela Levesque Mural Artist in Hartford
United by Coffee
his mural depicts the tale told about coffee’s origin and ties into coffee farming from across the world. From the left, viewers can see Kaldi, a goat herder from ancient Ethiopia who brewed coffee after discovering his goat’s bursts of energy after chewing on the coffee plant. This scene transitions into farmers harvesting coffee cherries from the soils of Indonesia/ Asia. The right side of the mural shows Costa Rican/Central American farmers taking a moment to appreciate the rich scent of the freshly picked coffee cherries. I was especially connected to this project because I have spent a lot of time in countries like Costa Rica and Indonesia, where coffee is life.
Commissioned by the City of Bridgeport. September 2024.
