Two Travellers in Queensland by Eric Sesto in Melbourne
Two Travellers in Queensland
This was a commission executed in Cairns, Queensland in 2022. The artwork is 8 metres high and 12 metres wide and is my favourite mural work done to date. The work features two realistic portraits on a natural background located in Cairns. It was painted with paintbrushes and due to complications sourcing a scissor lift, it was painted mostly with the assistance of ladders.
I’m an artist based in Melbourne painting murals and studio work for the last 10 years. I have painted murals in 6 different countries. I have completed work for Maribyrnong City Council, Mitchell Shire Council and have even had a wall permanently conserved in Guayaquil, Ecuador. I have had three solo exhibitions in Melbourne at Brunswick Street Gallery, Off The Kerb Gallery, and Neon Parlour since 2018 and a duo show in Brisbane in 2015. I obtained a Bachelor of Architectural Design from the University of Queensland in 2015 but my desire to be a painter was so strong that I have focused on art ever since. I have completed numerous commissions for murals and paintings for a wide variety of private clients since this time. My mature work is driven by an interest in human anatomy, psychology, technology, art history and philosophy. I am inspired by surrealism, naturalism, expressionism, post-Impressionism and precisionism, but prefer to operate outside the confines of genre. The emphasis on landscape and sky in my work is a homage to my childhood growing up in rural Victoria.
