Tim of Stars by Chloe de la Lune in Auckland

This is a portrait of my partner Tim. He is a gentle and kind person – a vegan who loves animals, nature and gazing at the stars. He is often fascinated by the world around him which is represented by his gaze looking towards the outside of the frame. I wanted to portray his calming and down-to- earth personality through the use of the dark blues with earthy orange and brown colours. He is thoughtful introvert who loves to read and be lost in narratives – such as fantasy and science fiction novels, so I painted the starry space background and the animals fox and hare that often appears in fables. His favourite animal is also the fox. The effect of the paint being ‘stripped away’ from the subjects suggests the idea that we are made of stars, we are interconnected with each other and with the world around us. The artwork was digitally painted on the Procreate app on the Ipad Pro.
