The Pursuit by Art by Tarryn Zerbinos in Anchorage

The Pursuit

I was inspired to paint this fierce bear from a time we flew our little 180 south of Cordova for some great salmon fishing. I was 6 months pregnant and we had our 2 year old in tow with his little strider bike to bike the beach. We landed and fished our little hearts out in the company of these giant bears. They were across the river and of course I was on high alert but they didn’t seem to care about us at all just wanted their next catch. However, one did run into the water and stole a fish off our friends line and that was the moment that inspired this guy. The bear was agile and moved with grace, determined to get this easy fish snack. It was adrenaline pumping and I will never forget it. To this day, I always sort of want to see a bear (preferably from a great distance) while we’re camping just to ogle at them and then on the other hand I have no desire to see one because… well you’ve heard the stories.
