This painting shows a moment, a scene from a tale, where the viewer participates as a silent witness of what is happening and what is going to happen. A feathered serpent can be seen stalking a nest, and inside it, a woman sleeping next to 3 blue eggs. All this comes together under the leaves, landscape and poetry sorround the scene in a strange mixture. It is not clear what is the size of the characters in this fantastic world, are they big, are they small? no one knows, only one question remains for us to ask, what is inside the eggs? This way we will know if the nest belongs to the girl, the serpent, or something else. With raw feeling, beauty into chaos, is seen unfolding in a dream world of characters, unicorns, winged sheeps, flora and fauna.
Jose Bacarreza (born 5 July 1982, Santiago) is a contemporary Chilean painter. Bacarreza works and lives in Perth, Australia. He is known for his large-scale oil paintings, often portraying a dramatic intertwinement of the human psyche with the natural world. Bacarreza's works deftly invite the viewer to experience the simultaneous existence of beauty and death, happiness and grief, and vulnerability and strength. Bacarreza juxtaposes imaginary limits of the size of the Universe and one’s mind with the physical limitations of the size of the canvas. Through symbolism, color, texture, and composition he invokes mystery, nostalgia, dreams, and fantasy, enticing the viewer to step in and experience a personal journey.
