The house that Stanley built by Luna Nova in Brussels
The house that Stanley built
Although this looks fairly simple, this project took 7 full days, in the heat, the wind and rain. The smiley face is painted on all four walls which stands 11 m on top of the roof of an 8 story building. We only had one tower of scaffolding that couldn't access all parts of the wall so with our rock climbing and rigging skills we set up anchors where we could abseil to continue to paint. We used stencils for the eyes and measured each smile according the different dimensions and obstacles on each wall. We painted with black spray paint.

I am a South African Multidisciplinary visual artist. I live a rather nomadic life. I am currently based in Europe, between Belgium, France and the Netherlands. My practice has many languages. I am a maker, a narrative creator, a teacher, a philosophical thinker, a decontextualizer of objects, one who draws, listens, performs, sculpts, paints, writes. My BA major was sculpture, sound, performance & installation. I have been freelancing as a muralist since 2004. I work as a curator, workshop facilitator, project manager and have participated in numerous group shows, both nationally and internationally. I am represented by Cape Town based agency SJ Artists and have been working as a co-curator and artist in residence at the Nirox Foundation since 2017. While many of my commissions based works exist in the corporate realm, I am shifting my focus to projects and workshops that are collaborative, community based or have a social impact attributes.
