The Guilty Feminist by Maria's Oils in New Westminster
The Guilty Feminist
This one actually was a cover-up of a portrait of someone who is no longer in my life *cough*. Because a giant painting of an ex is not necessarily my preferred decor, I decided to cover it with one of my favourite people: Deborah Frances-White. She's a comedian, activist and creator of "The Guilty Feminist", which is an amazing podcast that you should listen to right now....
Anyway, this is to date one of my favourite pieces I have made! And one of my first experiences with oil paints, which I've come to love!
I have been drawing and painting ever since high school spending hours and hours making pencil sketches of my favourite characters and of my friends. I spent some time at an art-focused school in the UK, where I grew to love acrylic painting, especially on big canvases. A few years ago started using oil paints to create some of my favourite pieces and both acrylic and oil paints are what I prefer to use today. I'm a very structured person so I like to use grids and a well-prepared guide to base my paintings on. For example, for a graduation portrait, I photoshopped the subject to be placed in a certain location, as the client preferred it.
I love art and to be able to bring someone else's vision to life, while also being able to support myself, is honestly a dream and I would love for you to be part of that! Whatever your idea or wish is, just message me and I'll do my best to give you a piece that you love!
