The Cube Project by Carley Cornelissen in Brisbane
The Cube Project
The cube project was created for a local festival in the Morton Bay region of Brisbane in 2018 and commissioned by the council. I had full control over the design of each side and got to paint live over the course of the two day festival. Each side was 2 x 2 metres and were created using acrylic, image transfer and spray paint.
I'm Carley, an artist from Brisbane. I graduated from RMIT Melbourne in 2006 and since then have had work exhibited in Australia, the UK, Hong Kong and Europe. I have been selected as a finalist in competitions such as the Sunshine Coast Art Prize and the Gold Coast Art Award. Over the last few years my main interest has been in large scale artworks and murals. I have completed private pieces as well public ones, recently I have been commissioned by the Brisbane city council, Brookfield shopping centre and Morton Bay council to create both indoor and outdoor large scale artworks. My works are a reflection of my daydreams of idyllic paradises where birds and animals live together with no fear of threat from humans. Their habitats are untouched, colourful and bright. They are safe. I create these environments with mixed media processes such as image transfers, hand cut stencils, spray paint and even glitter. Experimentation, colour and pattern are what inspire me to create on a daily basis.
