The Butchers Medusa by Ignacio Querejeta in Bendigo
The Butchers Medusa
Location: Cadell Place, Wagga Wagga
Client: Wagga Wagga Council
This mural was part of the inaugural “Lost Lanes Festival which sought to revitalize a “lost” and neglected part of the city.
“My immediate reaction was to paint something bold and surprising in this lost space; to give those who wander something to be discovered in these hidden places. The outer wall of the butcher’s shop is an interesting surface to explore and I think of the Medusa and the butcher in the role of Perseus in his work of cutting and cutting ... delicious and very varied meats.
Mythology, wall art and irony are the ingredients of "Medusa" an image of strong impact for the Mural and the Lost Lanes Festival.”
Ignacio is a Spanish visual designer living in Bendigo VIC, he has worked in both the public and private sectors in Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Australia, custom designing bespoke projects for mural painting, graphic design, textile design and illustration.
He loves natural themes like australian wildlife and often incorporates these subjects into his designs with his own particular style. Ignacio works across numerous mediums and scales, from large public murals, commercial locations, private residences, indoor murals, paintings on canvas or graphite drawings.
He is interested in the alternation of abstract elements with highly stylized figurative ones to create images that are beyond the boundaries of rational thought. The space between the abstract and the figurative grants Ignacio total freedom to consider line, shape and color, and how they interact with one another.
He enjoys finding solutions to new creative challenges.
