The Art of HBCU by Rio Sirah

I was commissioned by Walmart to create a civil rights historical mural for one of their stores. The mural depicts the HBCU’s and other key moments and figures in the civil rights movement. I used bright, bold and some pastel colors to bring the mural to life, and the finished product is a stunning tribute to great minds cultivated in HBCUs and who changed the face of this nation. The mural has received widespread acclaim and is being honored Jan 16th, 2023 on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. It has become a popular attraction for both customers and local residents. The mural can be seen in ATL, GA at Walmart’s Vine City location.
