Tantalus Original by CLR Creations in Savannah
Tantalus Original
This painting draws inspiration from Tantalus Estate in the Onetangi Valley of Waiheke Island, where vineyards stretch across gentle slopes surrounded by native wetlands, olive groves, and restored forest. The estate carries a sense of quiet discovery, reflected in its name, which comes from nineteenth century decanter cases designed to protect treasured spirits while keeping them visible. That idea of something precious waiting to be uncovered shaped the spirit of this work, translating the landscape and atmosphere of the vineyard into an abstract memory of place.
The composition reflects the character of Tantalus Syrah, whose layered notes of rose petal, dried herbs, baking spice, and black pepper guided the palette and movement within the painting. Deep reds and dusty rose tones echo the richness of the wine, while cooler blues trace the curves of the valley and the pathways through the vineyard. Like the wine itself, the piece balances structure and energy, bringing together the mineral soils of Onetangi Valley, the warmth of the Waiheke sun, and the slow unfolding complexity of a glass of Syrah shared among the vines.

Meet the Artist
Savannah, United StatesI believe every piece of art tells a story. Whether it's inspired by a meaningful place, a cherished person, or a shared space, I love creating work that carries lasting significance.
My work includes abstract cartographic paintings, portraits, murals, and custom commissions. Travel has deeply influenced my artistic voice, inspiring me to explore the connections between place, memory, and identity through layered compositions and expressive color. Alongside my map-inspired work, I enjoy creating portraits that capture personality and emotion, as well as murals that transform walls into spaces that invite connection and conversation.
With a background in fine art and graphic design, I combine traditional painting techniques with thoughtful composition, color theory, and strong attention to detail. I work in a variety of styles and scales, from intimate commissions to large public and commercial pieces, always tailoring each project to reflect the client's vision while bringing my own creative perspective.
Above all, I love collaborating with people to create artwork that feels personal, meaningful, and made to be lived with for years to come.
