I created this small mural of a taniwha (Maori mystical monster) for my sons class to colour in paint and hang in their school. They have been learning the local legends one in particular about two taniwha brothers who formed our harbour and hills here in Wellington, New Zealand. They asked me to design them a taniwha based on the children’s visual ideas. I am excited to see it once they have transformed it with colours.
I have been drawing characters since I was a kid and would spend the hour long bus ride home from primary school taking requests of what character to draw next. Every character I draw has distinctively large eyes that almost stare into your soul. My characters are cute, engaging, humorous and often a little chubby. I especially like to work in a bright modern colour palette but can adapt to suit your vision.
I have worked as a freelance illustrator for the past 15 years creating artwork for branding, children's books, educational resources, interactive learning applications. In the past few years I have moved into doing murals and absolutely love it. I have created murals for schools, early childhood education centres, city councils and even residential homes. These murals I painted with brushes.
I am always keen to push my style in different directions and can adapt to suit your creative vision.
