Swamp Gum Tea Tree and Banksia 2021 by Melanie Caple in Melbourne

Swamp Gum Tea Tree and Banksia 2021

‘Swamp Gum, Tea Tree and Coastal Banksia’ 2021, Seaford Library and Community Centre, commissioned by Frankston City Council. Commissioned by Frankston City Council, although this building was a hub of activity for the local community it was looking very tired and dull. They wanted something transformative but not too overwhelming, and something that would feel welcoming to all. By drawing on the local foliage that lined the nearby Kananook Creek, I featured swamp gum, tea tree and coastal banksias, with soft colours drawn from the Seaford sunsets. It was such a lovely place to paint, and the community in and around that building were so accomodating. 'Swamp Gum, Tea Tree and Coastal Banksia,’ 2021, Seaford Library and Community Centre, 1 x 7m, 6 x 3m, 6 x 9m.
