Supersize Christmas Tree by Mimi Fairall in Sydney
Supersize Christmas Tree
These large sculptures were created to be hung as supersize Christmas decorations in a heritage listed pine tree in Haig Park, Canberra, Australia. The sculptures are made from a combination of timber, hula hoops and papier-mache. They feature a variety of embellishments including pool noodles, rubber gloves, plant pots and vinyl table clothes and were hung in the public park for 8 weeks over the summer of 2021-22.
Meet the Artist
Sydney, AustraliaMimi is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Sydney, Australia.
Her work is primarily an abstract and process based practice grounded in drawing. Other 2D mediums such as painting, collage and printmaking stem from her works on paper. Her practice also widens to include various forms of public art such as installations, murals and assisting established street artists with community projects.
Her works are a combination of bright colours, gestural marks and playful shapes. They are informed by the imagery, emotions and sensory experiences from her everyday life - interesting textures, lights, smells, patterns or sounds. These observations generate an intuitive and uninhibited response that lead into the making process, working without an expected outcome.
