Lena - 'With deep interest in story telling my characters are either bibliographical or imaginary. Totally in love with colourful, imaginative folk art - traditional and sophisticated patterns. Through art I ponder on matters of spirit, reality and imagination.
Have good understanding of the art process on the canvas, wood, paper and the wall. Wall art is interesting as it has direct communication/ contact with the viewer. I wish there were more art on the walls across the city :)
Statement
Apart from commission when I know what I am painting there is another side of the process: ' When I enter into the process of making, I am interested in the way that accident and chance can impact the appearance and understanding, what can only be discovered through the act of making. I begin painting sometimes tentatively with the line or pure colour. Painting, for me, tells a story and I often reflect on accidental nature of it. I work with various materials - exploring natural and synthetic fabrics, oils and dry mediums. New elements and sources are always entering the process - this leads to new discoveries, new forms and I welcome their appearance within the work. For me, painting at its core is a transference of thoughts and emotions into creative storytelling, through which I seek to understand, experience and see.
