Sparkasse Bank Flensburg by Molly Hawkins in Bristol

Looming Large Festival hosted 9 incredible female mural artists from around the World. The artworks that were created across the town varied in style and all had a unique artistry to them. The festival aims to do more for Flensburg’s art and culture scene whilst bringing women’s art in to the public eye. With a 10m x 7m concrete canvas on the façade of Sparkasse Bank, Molly drew on inspiration from the local vicinity of Flensburg; from the colours and architecture of the neighbouring buildings to the wooden Danish boats that moored in the harbour. The city is alive with colour in the deep blues in the Fjord waters and the lush warm orange and yellows of the city buildings providing a perfect colour palette. The city was built with beautiful architecture amongst the rooftops and archways which provided such interesting formation that Molly wanted to use recreate this piece. This piece was painted over the course of a week as part of the mural festival, meaning visitors could witness the artworks develop to completion. Photo by Jan Michael Stümpert
