Sit and Reflect by Manda Lane in Collingwood
Sit and Reflect
Designed for Surface Festival, street art festival in Miami, Queensland, in July 2022, this digital design was created to be printed onto 4.8 meter long corflute.
"In this digital illustration for Surface Festival 2022, Manda continues this theme, creating a tangled battle between nature and the chairs, suggesting a lack of reflection and consideration given to the environment by our policy makers, and the increasingly tense ways that nature is beginning to fight back as a result."
Meet the Artist
Collingwood, AustraliaManda Lane is a botanical mural and paste-up artist, working out of Everfresh Studios in Collingwood, Melbourne.
In her public art practice, Manda plays with the urban environment, often using art to re-insert nature back into inner-city locations, and creating work that celebrates the often under-appreciated plants and weeds.
Inspired by early scientific illustrations of plants, coupled with modern tattoo design, Manda works predominantly in a monochromatic palette, while aiming to bring a contemporary, delicate and stylised approach to botanical art.
Manda’s previous mural work includes painting weeds at the National Gallery of Victoria (2022/23, Temple of Boom), within Dorsett Hotel, the side of buildings in inner-Melbourne as well as central NSW. She has also been commissioned by Visit Victoria, Officeworks, Ritz Carlton Hotel, local councils and private commissions. However in her spare moments, she can be found lurking with paint or glue amongst the weeds in quiet laneways.
