Sentient by Tom Ansell in Busselton

Sentient

A massive 155sqm entry statement for the Vasse Village West-Facing wall of The Clean Spot Carwash, Sentient is the incorporation of the wonder and magnificence of the Ngari Capes Marine Park where Vasse and Busselton reside by. This piece features an imagined - albeit overly blue - humpback whale alongside a reef system with s-curve notes of sea-grass to balance the composition. This piece was drawn up, outlined, and painted entirely by hand over 2 months and, due to the quality of the surface and the delicate care taken to create it, features fine-art levels of finish on a scale that encompasses 6m at the highest point and 21m wide. Like with all my murals, my intention is to fuse a synergy of fine-art techniques from my studio-painting background with public art and mural/wall art to produce bespoke, statement pieces that both embody the most vital, important aspects of the clients' vision, but also offer an experience that transforms a blank space into a known place - transporting the viewer to another dimension. This piece was commissioned by The City of Busselton and Project Management was conducted by Paul Parin from Artefact Creative.
