Scottish hand pained thistle mural by Paint Pad Interiors in Lancaster
Scottish hand pained thistle mural
My client wanted hand painted thistles for her Scottish themed bedroom either side of the fireplace.
This was a simple way of adding a little character to the chimney breast and the overalls space.
Using a colour palette inspired by the colours already in the room, I hand painted the stems and thistles onto the wall. I used household emulsion, mixed by myself to get the desirable colours. I really love how it turned out and the client is very happy too.

Lancaster, United KingdomHello, my name is Kate and I am a mural artist based in Cumbria. I have a degree in Fine Art and I have taught art at high school level for 15+ years. I am now freelance and love the freedom this allows me. My inspiration for my artwork comes from many places, but I’m influenced mainly by the shapes and patterns found within the natural world around me. I love to scale up and simplify when I’m designing. Colour is also very important to me and I’m always on the lookout for new and exciting colour schemes to work with.
