Safety vs. Change. by Keinom in Berlin

Safety vs. Change.

This piece is one of a series, where I try to bring philosophical contrasts together. "Leo Tolstoy once said: "Everyone wants to change the world, but no one wants to change themselves." My work deals with the change that one undergoes with oneself and how complicated it can sometimes be. My work reflects this inner change, the conflict and the effort that is sometimes necessary to achieve it. It revolves around the question: "Is it the right decision or will I regret it afterwards?" One side wants to move forward with a change and can't move fast enough. The other side tends to run away and wants to stay with the familiar and the old. The picture shows the inner conflict of breaking away from these old ways of doing things, of breaking them down in order to move forward. From the moment the first step towards change is taken, these opposing forces coexist until one direction prevails." Technique: Spray paint, acrylic paint, oil paint and nine stencils on canvas.
