Sacred fire by Miguel Albino in Welland

Sacred fire

This painting was created during the most destructive wildfire season ever recorded in Canada in 2023, the unprecedented destruction of 15 million hectares of land across the west coast to the Atlantic provinces was a sign that the temperatures rising are a concerning issue in Canada and all over the world. The concept is inspired on the burning practices developed by Aboriginal people to enhance the health of the land and its people. The worsening of the current wildfires is also a consequence of cultural burning being banned by colonialism.
