Rhinos in Motion by Jimena Bellina in Herne

I’ve been drawing since I could hold a Caran d’Ache pencil, and ever since, I’ve been drawn to capturing what it feels like to be human—across cultures, emotions, and everyday moments. My style is intuitive and free-hand, blending traditional and digital media to tell stories that are both personal and universal. Always the “new girl” or the “foreigner,” I’was born in Peru and lived in Switzerland, the U.S., Panama, Argentina, and now Germany—picking up French, Spanish, English, and German along the way. My life has become a mosaic of languages and cultures, shaping my artistic voice and deepening my passion for bridging people through visual storytelling. It’s probably also why I’m a mixed media artist, working with everything from ink and watercolor to acrylics, colored pencils, and fine pens. I love using Procreate, too—it retains the handmade quality I value so deeply. My work has found homes in Lima, Berlin, San Sebastián, Münster, and Chelmsford (UK). In 2014, I was selected to exhibit at Noche de Arte, Peru’s most prestigious art show. Fast forward to 2024, I was a finalist in The Mayfarer magazine’s cover illustration competition in London. In 2026, I’ll be presenting my illustrated book The New Children of the Sun through Mosaik e.V. in Düsseldorf. In just a year and a half as an art instructor, I’ve created and taught six workshops and courses in illustration, portraiture, and drawing at institutions like VHS Herne and Kunstpark Atelier. I also provide individual tutoring, both locally and internationally—reaching as far as Argentina. New courses for the second half of 2025 at VHS Herne will be announced soon! Whether it’s a quiet sketch or a layered narrative piece or a portrait that captures not only what someone looks like, but who they are, I love how illustration can create connection. I bring that spirit into every project I take on, through a style that’s expressive, contrasting, and narrative—sometimes humorous, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes both :) I look forward to working with you!
