Rewind PLAY
Oil paint and aerosol on recycled board, framed
34 x 34 cm
Part of a collection 'Passing Time' @MCRT.Studio creates figurative art with collage elements to convey a narrative of their experiences and the world around them. ‘Passing Time’ initially responded to a 4-week Artist in Residency program in the historical town of Oatlands, Tasmania. In January 2022, the Artists developed characters and narratives that speak to their theme by engaging sitters they encountered during this program and utilizing objects that they were given access to by the local museum collection and the local gaol. @MCRT.Studio used the time after their Artist in Residency to further develop their practice through several projects including a current group exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra. The collection ‘Passing Time’ aptly carries its name as each piece reflects daily and weekly activities that bring us joy. It looks at the simple experiences of bonding with ones around us, without the ongoing pressure of spending money and chasing the next thrill. It’s a reminder to cherish what we have and enjoy what’s in our reach, managing our self-expectations and outward pressures that can rob us of inner peace. Although time will inevitably pass, to have a goal in being intentional with how we spend it and cherish the moments within.
