8x4'' Latex House Paint, Outdoor Mural
"Reaching Out" was commissioned for a community art wall in Norwalk Connecticut during the pandemic. The client wanted the piece to represent the community coming together in such uncertain times and strangers lending a helping hand despite the social isolation necessary at the time. I worked with a highly saturated eye-catching palette to bring joy to the uncertain time we were all facing.
Hi, my name is Sarah. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018, earning an interdisciplinary bachelor's degree with honors in Fine Art and Gender Studies. While at school, I received various grants for my vulnerable portraiture. Since then, my work has been included in exhibitions in Connecticut, Pittsburgh, New York, Miami and Charleston.
I believe it is the responsibility of the arts to bring people together and thus have committed my practice to explorations of intimacy and connection. I am passionate about engaging in the local arts community through participatory projects, festivals and murals. My subjects range from the human figure to dreamlike landscapes and quiet snapshots of daily life, where I often explore themes of identity and gender. I forgo local color in favor of more luscious hues, exaggerated schemes and bold pattern, soaking my canvases, murals and illustrations in surreal color palettes and filling them with energetic brush strokes. My relationship with each piece emerges intuitively as I seize opportunities to pull magic out of the quotidian.
I love to create and connect and am always looking for new avenues to do so.
