Queanbeyan Town Park
This mural was created in 2022 at Queanbeyan Town Park in Queanbeyan, Australia. The painting for the box was inspired by images of the COVID-19 virus under a microscope. The organic shape of the virus resembles a sun or jellyfish and scientific pictures of it are in bright colours such as red, purple, yellow and green. The work references these images and transforms them into a playful abstract interpretation that feels positive and happy. It was painted using exterior house paint and paint markers.
Meet the Artist
Sydney, AustraliaMimi is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Sydney, Australia.
Her work is primarily an abstract and process based practice grounded in drawing. Other 2D mediums such as painting, collage and printmaking stem from her works on paper. Her practice also widens to include various forms of public art such as installations, murals and assisting established street artists with community projects.
Her works are a combination of bright colours, gestural marks and playful shapes. They are informed by the imagery, emotions and sensory experiences from her everyday life - interesting textures, lights, smells, patterns or sounds. These observations generate an intuitive and uninhibited response that lead into the making process, working without an expected outcome.
