Pseudonymphobic 2023

Pseudonymphobic (2023) is a 11.5cm tall felt sculpture depicting a hamster on a makeshift go cart crossing the finishing line. The makeshift go cart was made from plates of rice as the wheel, cakes as the seats and fruit slices as the front seat, operated with a tiny blue bird and a strawberry fairy. Surrounding them are their racing competitors riding on hot air balloon made from shortcake, boat made from takoyaki and bumper car made from jelly. Below them shows those who seem to still be at the start line, with a tiny puppy encased in an airship made from chocolate cake slice. Pseudonymphobic (2023) explores the concept of 'fake it till you make it'. All the competitors are trying to win a race using fake vehicles without thinking twice how superficial it is. They might not even know what they will be rewarded with. Parallel to our modern world, we seem to be constantly chasing after something. To proceed to the next level, we have to be someone apart from ourselves. Wearing different masks are ways we cope in the modern society. Will we ever achieve our desired goals and how much of our true identity are we sacrificing for them?
