Prince Charles Elementary School - Angela Glade & the 7 Grandfather Teachings
This was a grant funded project ($25000 budget) painted at Prince Charles Elementary School in Edmonton, AB. It was 60ft by 14 ft interior gymnasium wall. It was a collaborative work with Aanishnaabe artist, Que Rock. Busyrawk painted the portrait of the indigenous female role model, Angela Gladue, and Que Rock painted the stylized letter of the 7 Grandfather Teachings. It was a project for indigenous children to see a representation of a successful indigenous woman, who was once a student at this elementary school. Angela Glade is a professional dancer for the Halluci Nation, and travels around the world to perform powwow jingle dress, fancy shawl, and hoop dance.
Busyrawk is a self-taught, South Korean artist based in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Treaty 6, Edmonton, Alberta). He specializes in painting realistic and detailed portraits of people and animals with eye-catching lighting and dynamic colours, using aerosol paint.
