Primordial Mother Speaks for Herself by FYONAFINN in Bristol

I was commissioned by Arnolfini to install Zakiya McKenzie's poem on one of their walls for the exhibition Forest: Wake this Ground (9 July - 2 October 2022). I decided that I'd attempt to emulate Zakiya's handwriting to give it a personal touch; a different lettering style was given to paragraph 3 as it's from the perspective of "Primordial Mother". This was my first wall commission after practicing my experimental handlettering craft for a couple of years over the pandemic lockdown. It was a huge learning curve because I also attempted many techniques and thought experiments for the first time; scaling up with a projector, and each stroke was a blend of 2 of the 3-colour palette to give some depth to the text. 2.5 days work.
