Poppies by the Roadside
Soft pastel on archival paper.
This is a soft pastel painting I completed to let some loose marks out prior to my next commissioned piece. I recently stumbled upon a hillside of poppies next to a major, traffic-laden road - right next to a garbage canister and stark building. This is painting 1 of a series of poppies in which two are completed and may be displayed as a diptych.

Meet the Artist
Blue Bell, United StatesPeace! I am a soft pastel artist - using pure pigment that has very little binder - with “nuanced realism” and a spirited dash Impressionism that is aimed at capturing the soul of a person and the essence of place. With bold marks and glorious hues, I paint portraits, landscapes, and still life. The advantages of pastel paintings are that they do not yellow, crack, or fade over time like other artistic media, and the archival / museum-grade papers I use allow for many layers of color to be visible. Pastels are framed behind anti-glare glass and are beautiful to look at for years to come.
