Meet the Artist
Laval, CanadaHello, my name is Kessem and I am a Montreal/Laval based artist. I am an emerging artist studying Painting and Drawing at Concordia University.
My paintings and drawings depict positive and negative aspects of myself. My main mediums are acrylic paint, because of its plasticky vibrant colours, and coloured pencils, because of their ability to layer and their textures. I use cooler and saturated colour palettes that I feel best represent the chaos within my brain. I use my art practice as a form of therapy to explore my inner struggles with mental health and my neurodivergent brain; this is a part of my personal growth journey in becoming the best version of myself.
Furthermore, as a neurodivergent person, I see my art as a way to connect to others. If I can make art that other people can relate to, then maybe they will feel less alone and understood. Because in my opinion, the worst thing for a neurodivergent person to feel is misunderstood. I want to provide a voice for other neurodivergent people who are unable to speak up for themselves, while also striving to become the best version of myself I can be.
