This piece was apart of a group show at Honey Bones Gallery in Brunswick, Melbourne. The brief was simply 'LEMONADE'. The curator wanted everything to be yellow-based.
My piece focuses on the bitterness of lemons, and having this placed between two assumed lovers speaks volumes. As both subjects are androgenous, this can be seen as a queer piece. The lemon symbolises the bitterness of society/conservatism coming between them. Through their passionate licking and kissing of the lemon while simultaneously holding on to each other, the viewer is constantly aware of how bitter the lemon would be for both subjects but is forced to acknowledge their perseverance despite this.
I am an artist living in Melbourne, Australia. I mainly do illustrations and commission works, as well as painting murals for clients. However, I would love to transfer my own works onto big scale walls! I know the process through my experience thus far, so am just needing to find the space.
My work took a major turn during the COVID-19 lockdown, where I decided to commit to a 30-day challenge. This involved creating an artwork a day, whilst working full time as a graphic designer. Surprisingly enough, I committed to it and continued it even after the challenge was complete. During the 30 days, my work developed a great deal, from hand-generated illustrations to digitally generated works. From superficial concepts to ones of depth and meaning.
During this period, my beliefs and views about the universe took a great turn as well. I was exploring Buddhism, meditation, and the concepts of dream state and consciousness, and I love that my newfound knowledge filtered through into my artworks as well. From lacking so much confidence in my works to being so deeply proud of how they communicate my belief system and views on the world and its mysteries.
