Oh so ZESTY by ONIRIKO in Fitzroy

Oh so ZESTY

This piece was apart of a group show at Honey Bones Gallery in Brunswick, Melbourne. The brief was simply 'LEMONADE'. The curator wanted everything to be yellow-based. My piece focuses on the bitterness of lemons, and having this placed between two assumed lovers speaks volumes. As both subjects are androgenous, this can be seen as a queer piece. The lemon symbolises the bitterness of society/conservatism coming between them. Through their passionate licking and kissing of the lemon while simultaneously holding on to each other, the viewer is constantly aware of how bitter the lemon would be for both subjects but is forced to acknowledge their perseverance despite this.
