Oaxaca para GRiLS 12m x 4m by Alex GRILS in Melbourne
Oaxaca para GRiLS 12m x 4m
Painted in Oaxaca City Mexico for a printmaking workshop this piece is a collage of iconic objects from the region and the workshop itself. The wall was an unusual surface with empty window frames. This meant each section had to fit into these spaces, including some paste ups in the centre of the false window frames
I am a painter originally from the Blue Mountains. I have my beginings in Graffiti which was eventually followed by a fine arts degree at the National Art School. I have travelled to various places around the world and painted murals in many different countries. In my travels i have learned many different skills and techniques. My art has also has been influenced by these experiences in many different ways. I have been painting murals for clients since 2009. Because of the variety of jobs I have taken I am comfortable working in almost any style of painting. Upon returning to Australia in 2022 I have reconnected with the beauty of this country, because of this, natural elements have become much more present in my works. I love the community aspect of mural painting, if i compared it to studio work which is in solitude. Mural art is instantly engaged by the community, (most of the time appreciated) it interacts with the space it is in. It is public art and should be art for the people!
