‘My potential space, (Brighton in the evening) I live in a metropolis – London – and although I make efforts to seek out space there, it is a rare treat for me to be able to see the horizon. So, when I go to Hove in Brighton, I really enjoy the sense of limitless space, the horizon, the sea and the feeling of freedom they give me, especially in the evening when the sun is setting. I photographed this scene last summer and experienced such a strong sense of inner peace as it was unfolding that I wanted to immortalise it in a painting as a way to hold onto it.
