My Mom and Her Pet Goldfish by Justin Beamish in Edmonton

This is a painting dedicated to my amazing mother. She always tells my siblings and I the story of how when she was a child, living in Brunei, her family owned a fish tank. My Lolo (Tagalog for grandpa) would bring goldfish and other fish home as pets to put in the tank. My mom figured fish should be treated like any other pet, such as a dog or cat, and she would stick her hand into the tank and pet her goldfish. Sometimes, even pulling the fish out of the water to pet them. Although this is somewhat of a funny story, this piece is special to me because it reminds me of my mother and the kind heart she has, how she shows love and does her best to care for people of all kinds, including goldfish.
