Inspiration, and the feelings one experiences in the mode of self-expression – represented as a portrait.
When I have an idea to make a piece of artwork, I often feel a sense of excitement because I cannot wait to transform what I have envisioned in my mind down into reality. However sometimes I also feel a sense of doubt because I don’t know if I am able to recreate that vision. But making art is about the process as much as the outcome. It is important to apply artistic knowledge and technique to make it look good, but it is also vital to trust your artistic instinct so that you can move forward with the painting stroke by stroke to bring it to completion. If an artist keeps doubting their artistic choices as they paint, then it won’t be an enjoyable experience at all.
I chose to represent this concept through portraiture because I love to personify ideas in my artwork like in Greek mythology and the art of the Pre-Raphaelites. As humans we tend to take interest in other humans, so the human-like character allows the viewer to relate themselves to her more easily, and so hopefully can connect more with the concept of the artwork.
The artwork was digitally painted on the Procreate app on the Ipad Pro.
