I’m a mixed media artist, art tutor and arts project manager based in Winchester, Hampshire.
I have project managed community arts projects and murals and can help organise community events, run workshops and design and produce public art in a range of media.
My degree specialised in Printmaking for which I explored a range of digital and traditional printmaking methods. I am adept in a wide range of traditional and time-based media, and am confident working on small illustrations right though to large wall murals. In my own illustrations I explore expressive mark-making and like to combine traditional drawing and painting with collage, embroidery and fusing and transfer techniques. Common themes in my work include identity, anthropology, the body and portraiture.
I have a special interest in therapeutic arts, and work a lot in mixed media journals incorporating found materials and paper cutting techniques in my work: I believe the visual arts have an important role in providing emotional support and are beneficial for well-being through tactile expression and exploratory process. I can run journaling sessions and workshops exploring self expression and the playful arts.
My influences include; the illustrations of Maurice Sendak, Arthur Rackham and Aubrey Beardsley, J.R.R Tolkien, pouring over the photography in my mother’s Vogues, family holidays to Greece (the Parthenon), my uncle’s collection of 2000AD, Marvel and DC comics, album art of the 60’s and 70’s from my dad’s record collection, Pre-Raphaelite posters in the bathroom, Morph and plasticine, Jim Henson, Etch a Sketch, Sega, Athena, Smash Hits magazine then Kerrang and NME, Grunge, 1970’s retro everything, Rave, Metal, Abstract Expressionism and Frida.
