Jaye:
Lives and works in Tunis.
French-Tunisian artist, born in Paris, discovers graffiti in 1991 while browsing "Spraycan art". Jaye is also co-founder, with Manyak and Kube, of the W73 collective.
Joins TVA collective in 1997 (The Vandal Art). Made his first solo exhibition in 1999 at the Triiad' store in Paris. Routinely painting, his work receives fresh impetus in 2003 by the meeting of Nilko, who was to become his peer for many years.
After a number of exhibitions and artistic collaborations in France (2003-2009), Jaye settles in Tunis (2012) to start a new phase in his work, understanding the risk of running short of adequate material, he decides to experiment with new media. His meeting the sculptor Nouthayel Belkadhi - Nono, gives birth to "graffiti-sculptures", sculptures on which he transposes the graffiti universe and confronts its aesthetics with those of three-dimensionality. The new approach proves a great success with audiences and artistic institutions such as the Mucem, the latter integrating, in 2016, one of the sculptures into its collection.
Approach:
Jaye's work is a perpetual style evolution, imbued with various influences and inspirations, from lettering to figuration by way of the poster, the artist sketches the features of a society in mutation, a dialogue between ?Western graffiti culture and Tunisian Pop culture. After 2020, he deepened his research and is going beyond the "Letter" or the "Nickname" to explore new graphic and technical pathways, e.g., stencil or photographic editing.
