A collection compose of four paintings depicting The metropolis of London from East to West, four different times of the day. The sun rises from the East, so for this morning scene I chose a view looking towards the East of London, the home of the banking sector, using it as a metaphor for the engine of London that moves the wheels of the economy for the city as a whole. This comes at a price – huge amounts of pressure are generated here early in the morning to keep the engine running, and the vivid red and purple hues on the buildings represent this. Viewed as a whole, it may come across as a calm and pleasant scene, aglow with the first rays of warm sunlight, but as the viewer homes in on the details they may get a sense of the overwhelming pressure that I sought to convey. In the midst of the buildings, out of sight, the space carved out by the River Thames majestically counterbalances the heavy weight of the skyscrapers.
