Librarian Girl by Stephen Qucik in Bristol

Librarian Girl

Painting a mural in my hometown of Honiton, Devon, where I was born, raised, and went to school, had long been a dream of mine. Making it happen wasn’t easy, but thanks to the amazing team at Honiton Library—especially Linda Isaacson—and sponsorship from Forest Produce, the project became a reality. For the mural, I painted a portrait of another Honiton-born girl: my sister. The color palette was inspired by the uniforms of Honiton Community College and Honiton Primary School, grounding the artwork in the local community. The mural, titled ‘Librarian Girl,’ depicts a young girl reading, her imagination running wild as she’s captivated by the story unfolding in her mind. This piece of street art—something not often seen in Devon—was created to inspire local children to view art in a new light. It also aims to highlight Honiton Library as a vital community space, encouraging visitors to experience the joy and creativity that books bring.
