Image commissioned for the Bhopal Medical Appeal, for their digital storytelling platform. The BMA funds clinics in India to help survivors of the Bhopal gas disaster and those affected by chemical water contamination by industrial waste. The centres use Ayurvedic plant medicines as a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. The illustrations convey the relationship between each medicinal plant and the organs they heal.
I am a Brighton (UK) based artist, who recently graduated the MAET (Medical Artists Education Trust) Postgraduate certificate in Medical Illustration, alongside working as a research scientist. My science background has given me a deep understanding of the anatomy and the natural world, as well as a sharp eye for detail. Throughout my career as a scientist I held a strong creative passion, I drew every day and produced artworks for many local art exhibitions. When I discovered the MAET post graduate study program, I felt I had found my perfect niche. I could combine my two passions, science and illustration, which is reflected in the style and content of my work. Since graduating I have started out as a freelancer, creating surgical guides, journals covers and conceptual artworks. I have worked with researchers at multiple universities, the Bhopal medical Appeal and Journal of the American Academy of Allergy. I am now looking to branch out into product and editorial illustration.
