Korea by night. by Keinom in Berlin

Korea by night.

My work shows the Korean musician Sim Eun-yong from the post-rock band Jambinai. She plays the geomungo, a traditional Korean zither. Lately I've been listening to a lot of music from faraway countries that combine Western music such as rock, jazz or metal with their own traditions. I find it very limiting when, for example, a band from Japan makes music that sounds the same as if it came from America or Europe. But when they incorporate their own traditional tonalities, instruments or even language, I find that very exciting and completely new interpretations emerge. That's how I discovered Jambinai. They played at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang 2018. The wall was painted in an old Nuclear bunker of the GDR army nearby Berlin. The bunker will be transformed into a cultural bunker with a gallery and wall paintings during the next years.
