Inverted Figure by Eleonor Andersson in New York

Inverted Figure

"Inverted Figure" examines the relationship between the subject and viewer through a direct, confrontational gaze. As the viewer looks at the painting, the figure seems to look back, questioning and drawing them into its psychological space. This interaction encourages empathy while challenging perceptions of the self and introspection. Suspended in a realm of inverted colors, the figure is removed from real-world context, existing in a liminal state shaped by light and color. The contorted, constrained pose—grasping and holding itself—reflects emotional tension. The interplay between the background’s warm yellows and pinks and the subject’s muted greys underscores this inner conflict, blurring the boundaries between presence and absence, light and darkness. Inspired by psychological realism and personal introspection, "Inverted Figure" explores themes of connection, vulnerability, and the boundaries between the inner and outer worlds.
